When I feel like I don’t know what i’m doing I remember no else does.
I recently attend the annual AWIT (Africa Women In Technology) where the theme was “Let Women Build” and as a lady trying to build a career in the fast-changing and competitive IT industry, I sometimes feel a little bit overwhelmed.
That being said if you are like me and are looking for a formula to come out on top here is what I learned in a nutshell from that eye-opening event.
1.Curiosity
It goes without saying that what you perceive you can achieve…anything great that has ever been done has always started with interest.
2.Solutions
There are so many facets which could be of interest in the tech world, so how do you find your passion and be a so to speak guru in it.
Technology generally stems from creating solutions to everyday challenges that people have. For example Company X design software that If you are interested in a business solution in the corporate world for example what need does it solve?…
3. Know your stuff
There is absolutely no excuse for not knowing what is going on in your field. Paraphrasing what one of the speakers said: “Don’t be a basic girl(not the actual word used)” but for all intents and purposes let’s stick with that one…
4. Smartest person in the room? I don’t think so
Constantly surround yourself with people who are better than you. Who is around you? Don’t try to be the smartest person in the room. A know it attitude can seriously impair your ability to see other people’s points of view and learn…
